CONDENSED HISTORY OF WHITTON PARK LAWN TENNIS CLUB (WPLTC)

1947 Formed as Old Latymerians Lawn Tennis Club (OLLTC) at Whitton Park
1968 Argyle Tennis Club folded, and some members joined, including Norman & Sheila
1970 Alan Fisher joined – now longest serving member at 75 (was Norman at 82)
1980s Club at its membership peak with 80 playing members
1982 Men’s Team were winners of Middlesex League
1992 James joined when club had 40 active playing members and 20 social members
1990s It was necessary to queue to get time on court on Sunday mornings
1990s The grass courts were rested on Fridays and Mondays or got worn out
1993 Club begins period of decline
2003 Club at lowest point with only 8 active playing members
2004 James took over running of the club
2004 Introduction of “Off Peak” membership at half full adult fees
2007 James introduced Junior Coaching course with St Edmund’s children
2009 James introduced “Summer Only” membership for grass courts
2011 Further attempt to get Junior coaching established with different coach.
2013 Changed name to Whitton Park Lawn Tennis Club and founder member of WPSA
2015 Summer Open Day with Come & Try and Barbecue + Wimbledon Men’s Final
2016 Start of English Tea and Tennis/Croquet Parties for James’s Japanese students
2017 Visit of the Four Muchachos - from Madrid tennis club - prior to Wimbledon
2018 Visit of the Four Bjorns – tennis coaches from Sweden – prior to Wimbledon
2019 Visit of two players from Konstanz Tennis Club and Richmond in Europe Assn.
2020 Introduction of Family membership at 50% off normal individual fees
2021 Emerging from Coronavirus lockdown with grass courts open from mid April
